AMORE VINCITORE – After Orazio Riminaldi
Original reimagining by Slasky
Inspired by the famous Amor Vincitore by Orazio Riminaldi (Pisa, 1593–1630), this work arises as a contemporary reactivation of a masterpiece of Italian Baroque.
In the seventeenth-century painting, Love triumphs over the arts, over arms, and over earthly knowledge. In this reimagining, the triumph becomes ambiguous, urban, nocturnal.
The angelic figure is transported to the present: the body becomes a narrative surface, crossed by tattoos that replace the traditional symbolic attributes; Caravaggesque light gives way to a neon violet atmosphere; the overlaid message — “IT’S NOT LOVE I’M JUST DRUNK” — undermines the rhetoric of absolute love, transforming victory into excess, disorientation, contemporary confession.
The work engages with Italian Baroque tradition while maintaining its chiaroscuro power and the theatricality of the pose, yet subverts the meaning: no longer moral allegory, but an unsparing icon of contemporary culture.
This research sits within Slasky’s artistic trajectory, previously presented at the Wopart Art Fair 2019 at the Centro Esposizioni di Lugano (a work different from the present).

Slasky is a renowned Italian artist whose works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions internationally.
The artist has the ability to fuse classical artworks with contemporary digital art techniques. With his neo-urban classic style, he blends tradition and modernity, bringing the protagonists of original artworks into contemporary social and artistic environments.
Slasky (b. 1972, Italy) is a self-taught artist working from Artena, Rome. His practice emerged from outside the institutional art system — a background in manual labour that informs both the materiality of his work and the precision of its conceptual framework. Active since 2015, he has built an independent market presence across Europe and Asia before undertaking a decisive shift toward institutional research practice.
