Description from the seller

THE LOVERS is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado that reinterprets the classic imagery of love through a contemporary graphic language.

The composition shows two naked figures embracing, wrapped in an intimate and protective gesture. Their bodies, drawn with firm and expressive lines, convey a deep connection that goes beyond the physical, evoking an emotional and symbolic union.

The wings that emerge from their backs, along with the golden halo that frames them, introduce a nearly divine dimension, as if the love depicted transcends humanity. Decorative clouds and warm tones reinforce this dreamlike and timeless atmosphere.

Inspired by tarot iconography —particularly the Lovers card—, the work navigates between the mystical and the modern, using an aesthetic close to illustrated posters and pop art.

THE LOVERS is a piece that celebrates intimacy, mutual protection, and the beauty of connection, transforming a universal symbol into a powerful and contemporary image.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
