The works arise from an artisanal and experimental process that makes each canvas unique. The surface is carefully prepared and enriched with selected natural papers and material insertions, creating an irregular, three-dimensional base rich in texture that enhances the canvas's structure. Subsequently this surface is worked in an uneven manner using mixed media, where watercolor pencils play a central role, creating layering, transparencies and contrasts in dialogue with the underlying material. Each work reflects a balance between technical control and material spontaneity, marking the artist's transition from a solid digital practice to a more tactile, artisanal and material approach.
Giulia Piras began her studies at the Faculty of Biological Sciences due to her interest in naturalist themes. However she opts for a change of direction toward the Academy of Fine Arts, where she could deepen and apply her passion for scientific illustration. She continues her studies specializing in Illustration at ISIA in Urbino. Today she lives in the Marche countryside, in Italy, surrounded by the Apennines, oak woods and blooming meadows. She collaborates with publishing houses, magazines, companies and advertising agencies. She has been selected for the Renner Prize for Contemporary Art. In 2021 she won the contest "Digital Inclusion" organized by Posterheroes. In 2025 she was selected for the Annual of Image Authors and for the BRAW (Bologna Ragazzi Award) Amazing Bookshelf.
Possible color differences may depend on lighting conditions, monitor settings, or the camera used. The actual color tones may therefore vary slightly from those displayed on screen.
Some images are photomontages created for purely illustrative purposes. The proportions and dimensions depicted may not precisely reflect the actual size of the artwork.
