Hildegard Stehr’s abstract acrylic painting Smid on canvas and wood, 31 × 48 cm, dated 2026, original edition, hand-signed, in excellent condition, from the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
Acrylic paint, canvas, wood
Dimensions: 31 x 48 cm.
The minimalist, mono- or duochromatic abstract paintings evoke the aesthetics of works by, for example, Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman. The geometric canvases could very well be close-up photos of modern buildings; only the bright contrasting colors make us think differently.
Rhythm and structure form the core of Hildegard Stehr's work. Initially trained as a graphic designer at the Royal Academy of Art in Den Bosch, she developed a visual language in which order and irregularity challenge each other. Her work is characterized by rhythmically built-up planes, stacked forms, and a dynamic play of light and shadow. Stehr plays with contrasts such as smooth and rough, cut and tear, strength and vulnerability. Her apparent simplicity is the result of careful consideration.
The artist is regularly invited for exhibitions. Her work is in private collections in Europe and beyond.
