Cities declined as immense reading rooms under the open sky.
The depicted figures are caught casually, not posed.
started in 2003 and still ongoing), in which cities are presented as immense reading rooms under the open sky, whose boundaries, which include stairs, low walls, alleys and monuments, easily become shelters in which to surrender to one’s favorite authors. Montecucco manages to bring out that mild and malleable atmosphere ready to welcome and care for the reader, preserving the intimacy of the kindest moment from the chaos of the cities.
In the case of the images presented by Montecucco, the artist has managed to give an additional meaning to his works that have gained value from the concept of reading, and therefore of Culture.
The photograph, with its casual readers, is the protagonist of the architectures and the magnificent works of art scattered through our art cities, merging with them to create an intimate, silent dialogue between man, art and thought.
The depicted characters are casually caught, while they are absorbed in reading, often with their backs turned and constantly unaware of being part of a work of art.
Claudio Montecucco tells his project by resorting to the words of Robert Doisneau:
"What I was trying to show was a world where I would feel good, where people would be kind, where I would find the tenderness I hoped to receive. My photos were like proof that this world can exist."
