Medsan presents Edo Bonaparte (江戸ボナパルト) – Hand Signed, a 40 × 40 cm giclée in a limited edition (Edition 1, 2026), signed on the horse’s breastplate, in excellent condition and sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
With this square-format artwork, Medsan offers us a bold cultural mashup, reinterpreting one of the most famous paintings in European art history through the lens of feudal Japan. This print features a majestic samurai riding a rearing mount, in a composition that copy-for-copy reproduces the iconic posture of Napoleon Bonaparte crossing the Alps, immortalized by the painter Jacques-Louis David.
The visual and intellectual impact lies in the meticulous substitution of elements. The French emperor gives way to a proud Japanese warrior in full traditional armor (yoroi), draped in a long violet cape fluttering in the wind. As a gesture of command, he wields a folding fan adorned with Japan’s red solar disk. The mount, spirited and detailed, proudly bears on its breastplate the artist’s signature in imposing katakana characters (メドサン), integrating the creator’s identity directly into the action.
The composition’s impact is masterfully enhanced by a deep, solid red background, which highlights the scene’s nobility, the dynamism of the rearing horse, and the richness of the armor motifs. The bold line and flat color treatment faithfully follow the conventions of ukiyo-e prints, giving this conquering figure a striking pop-art aesthetics and timeless heroism.
A conceptual piece, at once aesthetic, historic, and intellectual, ideal for bringing a pop, graphic, and deeply majestic touch to a design-forward, contemporary interior.

About the Workshop:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a contemporary, living, plural creation. Installed as a true art production hub, the workshop operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a figurative contemporary painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Beside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo pursues a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, art brut, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, made, and followed within the workshop, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
