Title: Iced Coffee Samurai (アイスコーヒー侍) - Hand Signed
With this square-format work, Medsan presents a quirky, humorous vision, transposing a scene from modern daily life into the setting of feudal Japan. This print features a samurai with a stern, focused face, clad in a deep blue ceremonial kimono, a “kamishimo” adorned with his heraldic (mon) triangular crest. He is depicted standing, in a static pose, with a fixed gaze.
The visual shock and humor of the composition come from the accessory he firmly holds. In place of a sword ready to be drawn, he wears a large, transparent take-away cup filled with iced coffee and a green straw, being sipped. His two katanas are clearly visible at his belt, but his gesture is entirely different. The modern object, with its ice details and straw, creates a striking contrast with the traditional attire and the character’s austerity.
The impact of the composition is masterfully highlighted by a textured solid salmon-pink background, which makes the deep blue of the kamishimo and the drink’s details stand out. The bold line and flat colors rigorously respect the codes of ukiyo-e prints, giving this conquering figure a striking pop-art aesthetic and timeless heroism. The traditional vertical cartouche at the top right, housing the artist’s signature in Katakana (メドサン), perfects the temporal illusion.
A conceptual piece, at once aesthetic, funny and intellectual, ideal for bringing a pop, graphic, and deeply offbeat touch to a design-oriented, contemporary interior.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living, plural contemporary creation. Established as a true artistic production space, the studio operates both in collaborative creation and individual approaches, depending on the projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, focused on pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive research, blending abstract art, outsider art, and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced, and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and a unique identity for each artist.
