About the artist:

Freddish Papritz, professionally known as Freddish, is a French visual artist born in 1971 in Paris.

Self-taught, he emerged from Parisian urban culture of the early days and became, by the late 1980s, one of the formative figures of French street art. Active within the early circles of graffiti in the 1980s and 1990s, notably as a member of the IZB crew, Freddish helped lay the foundations of the street art movement in France.

Alongside his urban practice, he worked as an assistant to prominent contemporary artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, experiences that deeply influenced his artistic vision and positioned his work within the heritage of the Nouveau Réalistes.

From these influences, Freddish develops a singular multidisciplinary artistic language blending painting, sculpture, assemblage and urban techniques. He is particularly known for his sculptural interventions and metal assemblages, often conceived for public spaces. Together with other artists, he co-founded La Galerie de la Rue, a collective platform dedicated to exhibiting urban art in institutional and non-institutional contexts, in France and internationally, notably through projects in West Africa.

Freddish also collaborates closely with hip-hop scenes and contemporary dance, creating sets, installations and visual environments for productions staged in major Paris venues such as L’Olympia, La Cigale and La Grande Halle de la Villette.

A major milestone in his career came in 2006 when he participated in the Paris Autumn Salon, marking one of the first institutional recognitions of street art in France.

His work explores urban, social and fantastical themes, blending acrylic painting, collage and metal sculpture. Grounded in pop culture and hip-hop aesthetics, his practice gradually evolved toward more narrative and personal compositions, while maintaining a strong link to the city and its symbols.

Freddish's work is regularly presented on the contemporary art market, with pieces appearing in public sales since the 2010s, including notable works offered for sale in 2025. His creations are now in private collections in France and abroad.

Between 2020 and 2026, Freddish continues developing on-site projects, immersive installations and murals, notably in architectural and hotel spaces such as Ki Space Hotel & Spa, where his paintings and sculptures interact directly with their surroundings.

Regarded as a historical figure of French street art alongside artists such as Speedy Graphito, Miss.Tic, Jef Aérosol and Blek le Rat, Freddish remains an active and influential artist, bridging the origins of urban art with contemporary practices.
