Biography
André Butzer (born 1973 in Stuttgart) is one of the most influential contemporary German artists. His works move between abstraction and figuration, where he has developed a distinctive visual language characterized by expressive colors, strong contrasts and iconic figures. He is particularly known for his so-called "Fantawelt", a universe he created in which art history, pop culture and utopian visions merge. Characteristic of this world are his "NASAHEIM" figures, distorted cartoon-like beings with oversized eyes and minimalist forms, reminiscent of comics and expressionism.
Butzer's Fantawelt reflects a blend of consumer culture, German history and utopian concepts – a place that oscillates between dream and nightmare. The color Fanta orange plays a central role and symbolizes both childlike joy and artificiality, which underscores Butzer's profound engagement with painting and society. His works are exhibited internationally and are represented in renowned collections.
