Excellent condition uranium glass vase in a Top Hat style, 12 cm high, 18 cm wide and 15 cm deep, made in Czechia from uranium glass and dating to the 1920s–1930s, strongly attributed to Sowerby with a flared scalloped rim and a heavily faceted base featuring a starburst motif.
Description from the seller
Highly collectible and striking piece of antique uranium glass, also known as Vaseline glass.
Art Deco uranium glass vase, specifically identified as a "Top Hat" style. Uranium glass, is distinctive for containing small amounts of uranium oxide, which gives it a yellow-green tint and causes it to fluoresce bright green under UV light.
Strongly attributed to Sowerby, a British glass manufacturer, with production typically dating back to the 1920s or 1930s.
Design Characteristics: It features a flared "scalloped trumpet" or ruffled rim that resembles a top hat when inverted. The glass is heavily faceted with a starburst or floral motif at the base, which was a signature element for Sowerby during this period.
The item specifically is vintage or antique decorative bowl or basket. Many such pieces were produced in "basket" or "top hat" shapes with ruffled or scalloped edges.
Mid-century glass pieces with organic, unusual shapes that exhibit this characteristic glow.
