Biographical note:
Eugène Eechaut (1928-2019) was a Belgian artist of French origin, born in Raismes and died in Brussels. Painter, draftsman and watercolorist, he took evening classes at the Saint-Gilles Academy (Brussels) before becoming self-taught. From 1958, he received his first distinctions at the European Center of Art and Aesthetics.
A member of Groupe Jecta since 1968, he closely collaborated with the prestigious Galerie Tamara Pfeiffer in Brussels, where he exhibited alongside masters such as René Magritte (with whom he shared a sincere friendship), Jean Cocteau, Félicien Rops, and many other major figures of European art.
His work, imbued with poetry, elegance and sensuality, ranges between stylized figuration, fantastical compositions (notably inspired by the world of insects) and streamlined graphic explorations. He is particularly known for his female nudes in Chinese ink, executed with a confident, minimalist stroke that reveals the beauty of the female body. Influences of Gromaire and La Fresnaye. His work is included in numerous private and institutional collections, including the Brussels Print Cabinet.
