Description from the seller
Anonymous. Decretum Gratiani amended and Notation Illustrata. Venice 1584. Beautiful official sixteenth-century edition and corrected of the famous canon law of Gratian, promoted by Pope Gregory XIII. This authorized edition, often called “Romana,” guaranteed the accuracy of ecclesiastical legal texts, becoming an integral part of the Corpus Iuris Canonici. The work includes the amended text, the critical notes, and the glosses. It also contains the Canones Poenitentiales (part of Henry Susa’s Summa Aurea), the Canones Apostolorum (erroneously attributed to Clement I), and the Margarita Decreti Seu Tabula Martiniana. Three parts in one volume with continuous numbering. Beautiful sixteenth-century binding in full parchment. Calligraphic title on the spine. Spine with raised bands. Frontispiece in red and black. Beautiful woodcut vignette depicting Pope Gregory XIII praying engraved on the frontispiece. Illustrated by two plates showing the Arbor Consanguinitatis and the Arbor Affinitatis. Text in the center of the page and annotations on the sides. Dimensions 27x19 cm, pages 76n, columns 2704, 117n. Excellent condition.
