Description from the seller
Lot consisting of 20 medals and original Italian devotional pins, spanning a period from the late 19th century to the 1960s. The lot has been professionally cleaned to bring out the details while preserving the historic patina.
Pieces of note:
- 3 Silver Medals (Series C.I.L.): Three fine pieces in Liberty style with visible silver hallmarks. They depict the Guardian Angel and bear the acronym of the Confederazione Italiana Lavoratori, a rare example of Catholic labor-union medallic art from the early post-war period (c. 1918–1920).
- Papal Medals: Includes a significant silver medal of Pius XI commemorating the Jubilee of Redemption in 1933 (with Holy Door on the reverse) and several medals of Pius XII (Anno Santi 1950).
- Shrines and Devotions: Wide iconographic variety including the Madonna of Pompei (with view of the Sanctuary), Madonna of Caravaggio, Saint Joseph, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint John Bosco.
- Curiosity: One specimen of Saint Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo with the original red wax seal on the reverse.
Technical Details:
- Quantity: 20 pieces in total.
- Sizes: From a minimum of 1 cm (small tokens) to a maximum of 3.2 cm in diameter.
- Materials: 800 silver (3 pieces hallmarked + probable others), nickel-silvered bronze, aluminum and metal alloys.
