Sometimes it feels as if something heavy rests on us. As if dark areas had stacked on top of each other and were trying to suffocate the glow beneath. "Blockade" tells of exactly this moment – the feeling of being stuck, seeing no passage, no clear path.

And yet there is this blue.

It breaks through the cracks, shimmers between the black layers, breathes under the pressure. It is not loud, not intrusive – but unmistakable. Like a thought that cannot be suppressed. Like hope that refuses to disappear.

The black forms act like barriers, like shields or obstacles – perhaps imposed from outside, perhaps self-imposed. They overlay, obscure, control. But they are not complete. They cannot fully swallow the glow.

"Blockade" is not stagnation. It is tension. It is the struggle between constriction and openness, between darkness and inner light. A painting about resilience – about how something inside us keeps glowing even under pressure.

Christoph Prein is an Austrian artist known for his abstract and contemporary works, mainly created with acrylic paints. Originally from St. Margarethen near Knittelfeld, Prein’s pieces are often characterized by a minimalist, abstract style and are carefully crafted from high-quality materials to ensure vivid colors and longevity. High-quality and colorfast acrylic paints have been used on multiple coats of white-primered gallery canvas.
