Description from the seller
This is an interesting photograph by the well-known Cuban photographer Osvaldo Salas, a shot from 1958 that depicts Gladys Zender, the beautiful Peruvian Miss Universe 1957.
Osvaldo Salas is among the greatest documentary photographers of the 20th century, famous for his photo of Ernest Hemingway with Fidel Castro, as well as numerous images of Che Guevara and his reports in Latin America, Cuba, the United States and even China.
Very notable also are his portraits, of famous figures, such as Salvador Dalí, Maurice Chevalier, Ho Chi Minh, in addition to Che Guevara, Fidel Castro and Hemingway...
This photograph now for sale, I don’t know if it is staged or just a casual portrait, represents the aforementioned Miss Universe reading a newspaper, but it emphasizes the "cultural poverty" of poor Gladys, who has herself photographed reading, or pretending to read, the newspaper backwards!!!!
Beautiful period photograph, format 25.4x20.5 cm, duly stamped on the back by Salas with his old stamp.
Good/excellent aesthetic conditions, there are no disturbing defects.
