Ejti Stih – Biography (in German)
Ejti Stih (born on 25 November 1957 in Kranj, then Yugoslavia, today Slovenia) is a Slovenian-Bolivian artist who has lived and worked in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia since 1982. She has held Bolivian citizenship since 1982 and Slovenian since 1991.
She is the daughter of the writer Bojan Štih and the painter Melita Vovk, both prominent figures in the Slovenian cultural scene.
Education and artistic career
Stih studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and later completed a postgraduate program in the Krsto Hegedušić studio in Zagreb.
Besides painting she also worked in sculpture, ceramics, installation, set design and costume design. She has designed over 50 theater productions in Slovenia, Bolivia and Spain.
She is also a co-founder of Manzana 1, one of Bolivia's most important contemporary art spaces.
Her style combines irony, social critique, and strong visual symbolism. The color-intensive palette she uses is due to the tropical environment surrounding her in Bolivia.
