Description from the seller
Japanese Jubako Tiered Lacquer Box with Gold Floral Maki-e – Showa Period Vintage
This is an elegant Japanese tiered jubako (stacked lacquered box) made of wood, featuring refined black lacquer with gold decorative motifs. The design showcases delicate floral patterns executed in a style reminiscent of maki-e (gold lacquer decoration), creating a sophisticated contrast against the deep black surface.
The set consists of multiple stackable compartments with a fitted lid and a decorative base stand, accompanied by its original storage box. The red cord and tassel accent add a traditional aesthetic, enhancing its presence as both a functional container and a decorative object.
Such jubako were traditionally used for serving food during special occasions, but today they are also highly appreciated as interior display pieces or storage boxes for small items. The craftsmanship and materials suggest it was produced during the Showa period (mid-20th century).
