Alec Andon, better known as Alec Monopoly, is a world-renowned street artist from New York. He made a name for himself by appropriating the iconic Monopoly mascot, Rich Uncle Pennybags (Mr. Monopoly), as the central figure of his works. Alec Monopoly uses this character to explore and critique capitalist hierarchies through his creations, integrating elements of consumer culture, media and pop iconography, much like the British street artist Banksy.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Alec Monopoly has drawn global attention with his captivating street art that challenges established norms. His works often include large-scale murals, paintings and hand-finished pieces, creating unique Monopoly editions that reflect his sharp critique of the modern world. Known for his colorful, playful aesthetic, Monopoly also explores themes related to wealth, power and the impact of money on society.

Although his identity has remained mysterious, it is widely believed that Alec Monopoly was born in 1986 in New York, into a family of painter-artists. He finds the democratic nature of graffiti particularly appealing, stating: “Painting on walls is more enjoyable for me because everyone can enjoy it, not just collectors or art lovers.” This philosophy underscores his commitment to making art accessible to all, and not just an elite.

His art draws inspiration from various movements, including the surreal master Salvador Dalí, as well as influential pop artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, Arsham, Vhils, Saraiva, Obey, Invader, Futura, Jonone or Orlinksi. The incorporation of characters like Spaceman Richie and Ice Cream Richie in his works also reflects his fascination with pop culture and the playful tone that has become emblematic of his style.

That same year, he also unveiled the Bullet Time exhibition at The Eden Gallery, presenting dynamic images that complement his unique street art style. In 2025, Monopoly unveiled a new mixed media painting, "Monopoly Green German Luxury Car," continuing his exploration of luxury and consumption. Despite his success, he faced a personal setback when a Jacob & Co watch valued at £1 million, custom-made in collaboration with Monopoly, was stolen from his villa in Ibiza in July 2024. The theft, involving a limited-edition watch representing Mr. Monopoly and Scrooge McDuck, prompted an investigation conducted by art recovery experts and authorities.
