Description from the seller
Beautiful offset lithograph poster by René Gruau. “Le Rouge Baiser” in 1927
Original advertisement poster, printed on paper in the 1990s
Poster created by Gruau as part of the advertising campaign for one of the first long-lasting lipsticks, hence the subtitles “without a doubt” and “kiss allowed.”
Count Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate, [2] professionally known as René Gruau (4 February 1909 – 31 March 2004) [1] was a fashion illustrator whose exaggerated rendering of fashion design through painting has had a lasting effect on the fashion industry. Thanks to Gruau’s inherent skills and creativity, he contributed to a shift across the fashion industry through new imagery that depicted designs already popularized by industry designers. The benefits, including economic stimulation and enhanced advertising, are still present in the industry today through a new form of fashion illustration, fashion photography. Gruau became one of the most well-known and beloved artists in the world of haute couture during the 1940s and 1950s, working with Femina, Marie Claire, L’Officiel, L’Album Du Figaro and a variety of “high-style” magazines. [3] Gruau’s works are recognized and praised internationally in some of the most prestigious art museums in Paris and Italy, including the Louvre in Paris and the Blank in Italy. In addition to his fame and international recognition, “Gruau’s works are known for their timeless and enduring style.”
