Description from the seller
Grand plate in artistic maiolica (47.5 cm) signed G. Barile Albissola, entirely handmade in the renowned Ligurian tradition of Albissola, historic center of Italian ceramics in the postwar period. It is a piece with strong stage presence, with a wavy, richly relief-modelled edge, decorated with baroque motifs in cobalt blue and gold yellow tones, with multi-colored details applied by brush.
The central cavetto hosts a figurative scene of classical taste, probably inspired by mythological or pastoral subjects, depicting a couple with a child immersed in a natural landscape. The stroke is free, pictorial, typical of Albissola artistic productions in the mid-20th century. The entire composition is framed by decorative scrolls containing small landscape glimpses, which further enrich the aesthetic value of the work.
On the back there is the hand signature “G. Barile Albissola,” a guarantee of artisanal authenticity. Production attributable approximately to the 1950s–1970s, a period of great artistic ferment for Ligurian ceramics, often linked to experiments between art and design.
The plate is in good overall condition, with slight signs of time consistent with its age, no evident breaks. Vivid glaze and well-preserved decorations.
A decorative object of great impact, ideal for collectors or for characterful interiors, representing an authentic example of Italian artistic craftsmanship of the 20th century.
