Description from the seller

Large nineteenth-century Italian liturgical chalice – hand-engraved bronze with a cup in gold-plated silver (vermeil).

High-quality workmanship, made in finely hand-engraved bronze with a cup in gold-plated silver (vermeil).

The artifact stands out for the richness of its plastic decoration, with angelic heads, grape clusters, festoons, vegetal elements and Eucharistic symbolic motifs, typical of the best Italian sacred production of the nineteenth century.

The multi-lobed, irregularly shaped base is wide and scenographic, entirely worked in chasing with floral decorations and raised scrolls.

The central ovoid node, elegantly carved, takes up the ornamental repertoire with cherubic masks and phytomorphic motifs.

The upper cup in gold-plated silver, internally completely vermeil, features a lower relief band with rich figurative and symbolic decoration.

Good overall condition for the period, with wear consistent with time, light abrasions and antique patina. Inner gilding still well preserved.

Measurements: 22 cm x 13 cm x 11 cm. Weight: 430 g.
