Description from the seller
Seascape painting "The Sentinel" - 2026
This work, entitled “The Sentinel”, is a bold composition that plays on the simplification of forms and chromatic intensity.
The painting presents a coastal landscape treated in an almost dreamlike manner. In the foreground, dark tree trunks—presumably maritime pines—frame the view. Their shadows, in a deep electric blue, stretch excessively across a ground of bright white, suggesting a low sun, dawn or dusk.
In the center, a small human silhouette wearing a bright orange top turns its back to the viewer. It contemplates the horizon where a sea of saturated blue meets a sky of light blue.
The style borrows heavily from Fauvism in its use of arbitrary color, the white sand, the blue shadows. There is also an influence of modern poster art or comics in the absence of complex gradients and the use of large flat areas.
The work conveys a sense of solitary contemplation. The character seems tiny against nature, but its bright color makes it central. It is an invitation to daydream. The choice of unreal colors transforms a banal landscape into a scene of memory or dreaming, where light is more important than the physical reality of objects.
It is a very decorative, graphic style, which explains why this painting fits so well into contemporary interiors (living room, entry, etc.).
