Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-artist – Creator of contemporary images
A multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of images in urban space. He first became known through a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and overlays. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Echo Waves / Echo Visions - A new reading of cultural icons
The Echo Waves / Echo Visions series offers a contemporary re-reading of cultural icons through immersive and vibrant pop art aesthetics. Each artwork rests on a mosaic construction made up of thousands of micro-graphic compositions. From afar, the image reveals a recognizable figure, while up close, it reveals a wealth of visual details. Each fragment acts as a “wave,” evoking the artistic universe of the subject represented. The creation process is long and demanding, requiring precision and mastery of graphic tools. An in-depth work is carried out on colors, light and the overall harmony of the image. Everything is created in an original and independent way.
Career
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the designated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops an author’s practice as a musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
