Description from the seller

David Law

Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images

Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known through a series devoted to storefront window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.

New series – Walls of legends

This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, pared down to the essential, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Created with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-like aesthetic, the works fit within the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. The deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.

Parcours

Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops an author-musician practice including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
