Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary imagery
A multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first gained recognition with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This line of inquiry around gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later, intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light, and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few strong contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-like aesthetic, the works sit in the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops a body of work as author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the group FRENZY.
