David Law

Photographer-artist – Creator of contemporary imagery

Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a haunting, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.

New series – Walls of legends

This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to the essential, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with the help of contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works are part of the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. The deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.

Career

Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the designated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops a writer’s and musician’s body of work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
