Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and perception of the image in urban space. He first became known through a series dedicated to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration around gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to emblematic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an immediately recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into an aesthetic of stencil, the works fit into the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. The deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops an authorial and musical work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
