Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary visual artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling presence, almost alive, questioning our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Walls of legends
This series pays tribute to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works sit in the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. The deep black and rough surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of the icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops authorial work and musician including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. Singer-guitarist he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
