Description from the seller
In quarto, two full volumes contained in an editor's folder. The first volume, bound in full vellum with blind-stamped decorations, in anastatic print, 97 pages, printed on parchment with Gothic typography, engravings painted in gouache and gold. Faithfully reproduced is the original copy of the manuscript MS Douce 180 held at the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Commentary. The second book (Commentary) pp. VII-240 + plates inserted on coated paper, in full cloth; it is the codicological description by Petre Klein. The so-called Douce Apocalypse is an English miniature-work from around 1270. It was probably created for the later King Edward I and his wife Eleanor of Castile at the Westminster court school in London, and is regarded as an important High Gothic illumination. Limited edition of 960 copies (our no. 575).
