Rare vintage silver gelatin print by the acclaimed Finnish photographer Matti Saanio (1925–2006). This evocative image from Paris (1957) is a quintessential example of Saanio’s early documentary work.
The authenticity of this hand-developed print is exceptionally well-documented by the artist himself with two pencil signatures:
Front: Signed in pencil on the lower right corner.
Reverse: Signed in pencil with location and date ("Matti Saanio, Paris 1957").
Pencil signatures are the preferred method for fine art photography as they do not damage the paper over time, further confirming the archival quality and artistic intent of this piece.
Condition:
Please note that the sheet has a distinct horizontal fold/crease across the middle (see photos). While this affects the physical condition, the rarity of a vintage Saanio print from his Paris series makes this a significant piece for any collector of Nordic or European photography.
