Sylvain BARBEROT presents le ruban de Möbius, a 2016 limited edition mixed‑media bust (edition no. 2) on a stainless steel mirror plaque, 55 cm high and 71 cm wide, weighing 13 kg, signed on the plaque, produced in France in the 2010–2020 period, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
The mold of my silicone-elastomer-coated bust sits on a black-mirrored stainless steel plate. Its slightly curved posture encourages it to look at its reflection. Its porcelain-like skin melts away like wax in the sun to spread across the surface of the mirror. It seems to detach from its own skin to cover its own reflection and drown its double. The moment feels grave and tense. Transformation is imminent, where two protagonists face each other and merge. This is here to image the analysis of the artist’s work... The body of the artist looking at his own production, his interiority, as one observes a stranger whom one can tell has doors to open for us. The Möbius strip is a geometric form that unfolds in space only to end up back on itself, like the infinity symbol in mathematics (∞). The casting derived from my own torso is coated with the material that was used to make the cast. A cast, in short. The ribbon contorts and closes onto itself. In the same way, this concerns the artist’s body looking at his reflection, which is at once the artist’s work and the reflection of his work. ...and the ribbon closes again, against its skin in the depth of the reflection. There are two versions of this work. One rests on a black-mirrored stainless steel plate and the other on a gray-mirrored stainless steel plate. Both busts are completely identical.
