A 15 cm long silver spoon of .950 silver, weighing 24 g, of Dutch origin and dating to ca. 1750–1800, with the Leiden city mark of two crossed keys in a shield and the master mark lily in a circle, possibly the spoon of the Leiden silversmith Gerrit van der Lelie.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

From private collection. Two crossed keys in a shield: This is the official city mark of Leiden. In the 18th century this mark was always struck in a shield-shaped frame.
The lily in a circle: This is the master mark. As suspected earlier, the likelihood is very high that this is the spoon of the well-known Leiden silversmith Gerrit van der Lelie (active between 1764 and 1809). He used a lily as a 'speaking mark' (a reference to his surname).
The double strike: This often indicates a quality inspector who did not strike the stamp perfectly in one go, which we see more often with this kind of hand-stamped silver from the 18th century. 15 cm long. 24 grams.
