Stunning ceremonial Ngulu sickle (Democratic Republic of the Congo), finely worked in wrought iron with a carved wooden handle and metal-wrapped grip
The blade has an elegant curved shape with lateral cutouts and linear incisions that give it an aesthetic and symbolic appearance; these weapons were not intended for combat but served as badges of prestige and objects of dowry in marriage exchanges, as well as as currencies of value
The handle is carved and decorated with relief motifs in nodular shapes evoking strength and fertility, all covered with a beautiful antique patina that enhances its authenticity
The Ngula sickles are among the most remarkable examples of African ritual weapons, combining formal power with symbolic function
