Description from the seller
Title: Monumental Lead Crystal Cigar Ashtray – Modernist/Brutalist Design – 3.5 kg
Description:
Up for auction is an imposing ashtray of high European workmanship, dating from the late 1960s to early 1970s. This piece is not merely a smoking accessory but a true geometric sculpture in solid crystal, weighing an exceptional 3.5 kg, a characteristic that attests to its very high density and material quality (superior lead crystal).
Technical and Construction Features:
Design: The circular body is carved with deep diamond-cut facets. The structure features a double peripheral band of facets that create complex light refractions.
Contrasted Craftsmanship: Masterful alternation between a mirror-polished finish (on the crests and inside the basin) and an acid-etched finish (on the lateral flat surfaces). This technique gives the piece a visual depth typical of mid-century Scandinavian design or prestigious French crystal makers.
Internal Geometry: The bottom presents a radiating pattern with 8 radial cuts converging toward the center, reflecting light prismaticly.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 21 cm
Height: 6 cm
Weight: 3.5 kg
Condition:
The item is in very good vintage condition. Noted only a micro-chipping (fleabite) on one of the cigar rests, as shown in the macro photographs. The rest of the body shows no scratching or hazing, maintaining crystal-clear transparency.
