Description from the seller
In “Equilibrio del Alma,” the Cuban artist Elizabeth builds a universe suspended between the real and the impossible, where home ceases to be a physical place to become a deep metaphor of emotional stability and belonging.
The composition, dominated by a tower of rocks stacked in perfect—and seemingly fragile—balance, supports at its summit a small, warm, living house, accompanied by a lush tree that defies logic and asserts the persistence of life. This visual gesture turns the work into a powerful allegory: inhabiting is not possessing a space, but sustaining it amid uncertainty.
Elizabeth develops here a language close to pictorial magical realism, where the extraordinary does not intrude but is accepted with naturalness. Each element—the smoky chimney, the lit windows, the insinuated staircase—suggests human presence without needing to show it, generating a silent narrative charged with intimacy and mystery.
From a technical standpoint, the work stands out for an expressive use of oil that alternates between matter and delicacy: the rocks, treated with impasto and chromatic variations that range from violets, ochres, and deep blues, convey weight and time; while the sky and sea are resolved with soft glazes that provide atmosphere, depth, and an enveloping sense of calm. The vibrant palette—open blues, intense greens, and pinkish hues—not only describes the landscape but also emotionalizes it.
The lighting, warm and lateral, reinforces the cozy character of the dwelling and creates a deliberate contrast with the vastness of the marine environment, underscoring the tension between the intimate and the infinite. This play of opposites—solidity and fragility, isolation and refuge, weight and lightness—is where the work attains its greatest conceptual and visual strength.
More than a painting, this piece is a poetic statement about resilience: even in the most improbable balance, a home can exist, flourish, and endure.
Original work made in oil on canvas, hand-signed.
The artwork is carefully shipped protected in a transport tube to ensure maximum security.
