Description from the seller
In “Fortaleza del Horizonte,” the Cuban artist Elizabeth elevates the concept of home to a symbolic dimension where the intimate and the infinite converge. Suspended on a rocky islet that rises from the sea, the architecture becomes a statement of resilience, balance, and belonging.
The house—complex, organic, almost alive—does not perch on the rock: it is born from it. Stairs that rise, balconies open to the wind, and chimneys that suggest human presence build a silent narrative where each element reaffirms the idea of refuge in the midst of vastness. The tree crowning the composition, full and vibrant, acts as a symbol of continuity, rootedness, and life in an apparently inhospitable environment.
Elizabeth develops a visual language close to magical realism, where the impossible is perceived as inevitable. The scene does not defy logic: it redefines it. In this universe, to inhabit is to resist, and balance—though precarious—is enough to sustain existence.
Technically, the work stands out for an expressive use of oil that articulates contrasts of matter and atmosphere. The rock, worked with firm brushwork and controlled impasto, conveys weight, time, and memory; while the sky and sea resolve in fluid, luminous transitions that add depth and movement. The palette, dominated by expansive blues, intense greens, and warm ochers, creates a vibrant contrast that catches the eye and reinforces the warmth of refuge against the immensity of the sea.
Lateral lighting accentuates the volumes and casts shadows that guide the gaze toward the heart of the work, consolidating a clear, enveloping, and highly collectible composition.
More than a landscape, this piece is a visual metaphor about resilience: a reminder that even in the most absolute isolation, home can flourish, sustain itself, and endure.
Original work created in oil on canvas, signed by hand.
