L’opera è dello studioso, matematico francese Jacques Ozanam (1640 – 1718), ed è una delle migliori opere sulla Gnomonica, ossia lo studio delle proiezioni: è “un des plus beaux ouvrages de la Perspective, où l'on suppose l'oeil au centre de la Terre et la Terre au centre du Monde” osserva la prefazione dell’opera. Le tavole raffigurano studi geometrici, tavole matematiche, quadranti solari, figure equinoziali ecc. ecc.
