You are bidding on an old 4/4 violin, labeled "Caron, luthier de la Reine, Rue Royale a Versailles, 1778".
Condition:
Some tears and wears to golden brown varnish, some small old repaired cracks on top.
Description:
Good quality medium grained spruce was chosen for the top. Two pieces back with of softly flamed maple. Matched sides, neck and scroll. The whole length of the violin is 593 mm and the back 359 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 165 mm; middle bouts: 109 mm; lower bouts: 202 mm. Full size.
