Description from the seller

Brick Memories (Memorie di mattone)

Original XL painting, work from the series “Architectural Memories.”

A geometric investigation into the persistence of memory. It is not only a physical path, but a journey backward: every arch is an echo, every step is a stratification of experiences. "Brick Memories" does not represent a real place, but the monument we build inside ourselves to preserve what remains of the past.

Hand-painted with acrylic on canvas of total dimensions 110x80 cm; the painted surface measures 100x70 cm. About 5 cm of white margin around the canvas has been left, 100% cotton with medium grain, final protective varnish.

The work is a unique piece hand-signed with a certificate of authenticity included; it is not a print.

The artwork will be packed with the utmost care inside a tube and shipped registered with tracking number within 3 working days after payment.

Carmelo Manuel Tosto | Architect and Artist

Born in Catania (Italy) in 1990, I have outlined my creative path between the rigor of design and the freedom of vision. My education, developed between the Istituto Statale d’Arte di Catania and the Faculty of Architecture of Bologna, with crucial experiences in Ankara and Milan, has allowed me to develop a language where the built environment becomes emotion.

My artistic research elevates architecture not as a simple subject, but as the structure of thought. In my work, the constructive elements shed their practical function to become symbolic archetypes:

The Staircase - Represents the dynamism of becoming. It is an invitation to movement, an element that connects physical and metaphysical planes, guiding the observer toward new spaces of awareness or places of elsewhere.

The Threshold - A doorway between the known and the unknown. Architecturally it allows connection between environments, emotionally it transports toward states of mind of the observer. Behind every threshold, the viewer is invited to project what resides in their own unconscious, always seeking “beyond” the visible, transforming the act of looking into an act of personal discovery.

The Arch - An architectural element par excellence, it embodies resilience and balance. Its ability not to be crushed by weights but to discharge them harmoniously translates into a curved, soft line that welcomes and reassures, offering a stability that is both structural and spiritual.

In this constant dialogue between archetypes, matter and light, each painting is born as a "sensitive place". The painterly gesture meets architectural rigor to create depth not only visual but perceptual, inviting the viewer to inhabit the space of the canvas and discover a part of themselves within it.
