Description from the seller
Pope (1985) - "Pokémon Sanctuary" - Pokémon - 3/30
Discover "Pokémon Sanctuary," a colorful and irreverent Pop Art work born from the fusion of the Pokémon universe and reinterpreted religious symbolism.
In this new limited series of 30 unique copies in violet version for 2025, the artist Pope pushes provocation even further: here, Jesus disappears. What remains is a colorful sanctuary where Pikachu, Charizard, and countless creatures fill the entire cross. This divine work, under blue light, transforms and reveals intense and captivating fluorescent nuances.
This cross made of epoxy resin, handmade, becomes a profane temple, an explosion of colors where pop culture takes precedence over sacred tradition.
Each copy, numbered, is unique in its inclusions and composition.
The piece can be placed or hung thanks to its brass hook on the back.
Bid now to add to your collection one of the most exclusive and disturbing Pop Art pieces by Pope.
Dated, signed, numbered, delivered with certificate of authenticity.
Quick and careful shipping (bubble wrap, tissue paper, reinforced cardboard) with signature on delivery.
Who is Pope?
Pope, co-founder of the AMA collective, develops a singular artistic universe driven by a practice in the visual arts since childhood, a high standard of detail, and meticulous visual research. Through sculptures, paintings, and installations, he draws inspiration from photography, urban landscapes, and everyday scenes, with a sensitive and wonder-filled gaze, attentive to both the simplicity and the complexity of the world around him.
Pope primarily draws inspiration from the world around him but also from movements of renowned artists such as Banksy, Keith Haring, Koons, Orlinski, Takashi, Fred Allart, Shepard Fairey, Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Hamilton, Jean‑Michel Basquiat, Alec Monopoly, KAWS, Pantone, Mr. Brainwash, Blek le Rat, to name just a few.
Whether it’s a gift, a memory, or your personal collection of contemporary art, you will easily find your favorite piece thanks to the diversity of our works. Indeed, Pope pursues his urban art passion through street art (streetart) and pop art (popart), whether in limited editions or not, addressing a wide range of themes such as cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum), the dollar, money, gold, wealth, the sex industry, the harms of drugs, luxury brands and haute couture, the world of comics and video games, the pharmaceutical industry and medicines, recycling and upcycling, agrifood and fashion products (sport, sneakers, etc.).
Brands guide our choices and often our lives without us realizing it. Aware of this impact, Pope enjoys playfully distorting labels such as Louis Vuitton (LV), Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Prada, Gucci, Rolex, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Supreme, Obey, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, AMG, Mercedes, Nike (Air Jordan), Adidas (Stan Smith), Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Marvel and Avengers (Batman, Joker, Superman...), Disney (Mickey, Scrooge McDuck...), Nintendo, Sega, Tintin, Lego, Pokemon, Vans and many more.
Dear bidders, our collective is making every effort to ensure that all information necessary to assess the lot is clearly detailed in the listing: dimensions, weight, description, and photos... After the sale, no unjustified claims will be considered. Thank you for your understanding.
