Description from the seller
On the Skin of the World: Between Heaths and Revolutions
The work arises from a sensory ecstasy: the ethereal notes of Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights evoke the ghosts and passions of Wuthering Heights, transporting the artist to a dimension where the soul is naked. In this state of grace, an unexpected suggestion — the sight of an Amazon package — triggers a conceptual short circuit in the artist, who imagines it stamped with the revolutionary ardor of Ernesto Che Guevara, a figure who would never have tolerated the hegemony of multinationals, guilty of stifling small, vital local realities.
Through a wise mosaic of leathers and pigments, the work becomes flesh: every weave and color tells how the changes of the present are consuming, inexorably, on our skin. The painting is a labyrinth of anecdotes and subtle symbols, where the detail becomes the manifesto.
The Mystery of the Leather Disc
At the center of the composition stands a leather-wrapped 45 rpm record bearing the enigmatic inscription “Coach Neruda Vagamente.” Each word is a fragment of history:
• Coach: a tribute to 1952, when the young Guevara, during his epic motorcycle journey, stopped in Leticia, Colombia, and on that occasion trained the local football team.
• Neruda: a nod to the intellectual bond and mutual respect that united the Commander with the great poet of freedom.
• Vagamente: a critique of the drift of the myth. It is the term that best describes the superficial perception of Che: reduced to a banal commercial stencil, emptied of his stature as a great Revolutionary, politician, poet and dreamer.
The final revelation is hidden in a linguistic reflection: the expression “Coach Neruda Vagamente” is the perfect anagram of “Comandante Che Guevara,” the title of that immortal melody that resounds ideologically in this groove of leather.
Symbols of Resistance
The artist does not neglect the biting detail: Che’s eyebrow is replaced by the Amazon logo, a label that invades his gaze, a sign of the consumerist siege on icons of rebellion. And yet, to the right of the face, a tombstone rises bearing “REVOLUTION”: here, two mirrored letters reveal in the heart of the word the word “LOVE.”
It is the ultimate message of the work: there can be no true revolution that does not arise from a deep, visceral act of love.
