AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Great painting, oil on canvas with mixed media technique, signed on the front and back by the master Antonio Sciacca.. The work measures 48 x 68 cm.

Antonio Sciacca was born in Catania on May 13, 1957, where he earned his academic degrees. He graduated with a thesis on Francis Bacon, whom he personally interviews in London, at the artist's studio. He also met Alberto Burri, with whom he became friends and familiar. In 1978 he was selected by the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome for the Glasgow International Art Show. In 1983 art critic Pierre Restany visited his studio in Catania and, intrigued by the painterly research Sciacca was conducting on the “Metamorphoses of the human being,” wrote a critical text titled “Family Ghosts.” Alberico Sala, an art critic for La Gazzetta del Popolo (Corriere della Sera), wrote about him in the 1980s. In the 1990s he founded in Bologna a painterly-cultural movement called Metropolism, which tackles contemporary social issues such as consumerism and haute couture as a status symbol. In this movement, a group of international artists was involved who exhibited their works in Rome at Spazio Flaminio, with critical texts and appearances by Omar Calabrese, Renato Minore, Alberto Abruzzese, and Valerio Dehò. Among the many Metropolism exhibitions, the Madrid one (Italian Cultural Institute) in 1995 and the Rome one (Museum of the Risorgimento – Vittoriano) in 2000, with the presentation by Achille Bonito Oliva, theorist of the Movement, are particularly significant. Another art historian who followed the artist, commenting on some of his solo exhibitions, is Vittorio Sgarbi. Sciacca has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania and is currently a painting professor at the Nike Academy of Art and Restoration in Catania. He lives and works between Catania and Florence.
