Description from the seller

Leiden, Joannes Mare (Maire), 1610.
Small octavo. Engraved title page, 11 unnumbered leaves, 546 pages. Contemporary parchment binding, spine dull, binding well preserved, a few passages underlined with ink at the time, third edition of this collection of lyric poetry by Daniel Heinsius (also Heyns; 1580-1655), written in Latin and Ancient Greek. The author, highly regarded by the scholars of his time for his exceptional knowledge of classical languages, was a professor of Latin and Greek and, for many years, librarian at the University Library of Leiden. A writer of classical poetry, and more particularly lyric poetry in Dutch, his native language, he plays an important role in the development of European poetry.
