Description from the seller
[RARE] Set of 7 Jean Hervez volumes - Including 3 limited edition tirages de tête on Arches Paper (limited to 12 and 20 copies) - Bibliothèque des Curieux
Description:
Exceptional set of 7 works by Jean HERVEZ (Raoul Vèze), published by the mythical "Bibliothèque des Curieux" (4, rue de Furstenberg, Paris) between 1920 and 1926.
This lot is remarkable not only for its theme (mores history, eroticism and gallantry), but above all for the presence of three tirages de tête (Grands Papiers) of absolute rarity, intended at the time for the most demanding bibliophiles.
POINTS FORTE : 3 TIRAGES DE TÊTE SUR PAPIER D'ARCHES
These copies are printed on luxury loom paper, pure linen, and benefit from extremely confidential print runs:
• Amours Impériales dans l'Ancienne Rome (1924): One of only 12 copies on Arches paper (with justification present).
• Les Femmes de l'Arétin (1920): One of 20 copies on Arches paper (with justification present).
• Gestes et Chants d'Amour des Peuples d'Israël (1923): One of 20 copies on Arches paper (with justification present).
DETAIL OF THE LOT (7 VOLUMES IN TOTAL):
The lot also includes the following titles in a carefully kept common edition, perfectly complementing the series:
1. Courtisanes d'Athènes et de Corinthe (1921)
2. Les Maîtresses de Louis XV le Bien-aimé (1924)
3. Le Parc-aux-Cerfs et les petites maisons galantes (1925)
4. Le Portefeuille d'un Talon Rouge (1926)
Technical specifications:
• Format: In-8 paperback, original flexible covers.
• Iconography: Each volume includes its 4 plates hors-texte (reproductions of masters such as Boucher, Tintoretto, Gérôme, Vecellio).
• Condition: Copies preserved in their state of publication (softcover), which is ideal for bibliophiles wishing to have them bound. Paper shows normal browning consistent with the period. Spine shows signs of handling and older protections, but the set remains very coherent and sound.
