Valéry Larbaud, born 1881 and died 1957, is an important figure in modern French literature. Polyglot and great traveler, he helped make many foreign authors known in France, notably through his translation work. His work is characterized by a marked cultural openness and particular attention to literary forms. Through his writings and editorial activities, he played an essential role in the international literary exchanges of the 20th century.
