AGOUDAL iron meteorite from Agoudal, Morocco, weighing 10 g.
Description from the seller
Excellent Agoudal meteorites classified as a IIAB iron
It is the latest metallic meteorite to be discovered in Morocco, in the year 2011
Collected by us on the expedition we made in May 2019
The two lakes found in the area are actually craters of the meteorite. Supposedly the rock that traversed the atmosphere split into two large fragments before exploding and forming a rain of thousands of small meteorites, scattered around the current location of the city of Agoudal
A metallic meteorite is composed mainly of iron and nickel. In reality, it is a piece of the asteroid’s core. In the differentiation process, when the asteroid is a magma ball during its formation, iron and nickel settle in the center of the asteroid, since they are the heaviest elements. After cooling, the metallic core of the asteroid is formed. Through catastrophic collisions, the asteroid and its core break apart and those fragments remain in space until some piece falls to our planet. It is estimated that they represent 5.7% of falls
The pieces received are similar to the photos; 25 g of meteorite are sent
At Expometeoritos, we are in charge of outreach, talks, workshops, analyses, classification, and exhibitions of meteorites.
We are members of:
.- IMCA International Meteorite Collectors Association #8187
.- Meteoritical Society
.- American Meteor Society
All our pieces are certified and in addition, we provide the chemical composition analysis if the piece’s value exceeds €300, performed at our facilities by X-ray Spectroscopy.
