Description from the seller
Scarce first edition, with fascinating text and interesting photographs plates
Robert Peary's interesting account of his expedition in 1908-09 to the North Pole, upon which expedition he claimed to have reached the Pole. This was a controversial claim and was widely debated alongside a competing claim made by Frederick Cook. Peary's claim is still debated to this day, with some thinking that he simply just came within a few miles of the Pole. This volume explains Peary's 1908-09 expedition and his discovery of the Pole, an exciting account. A fascinating copy of the arctic explorer's travel narrative of the tundra.
