Description from the seller
Antonio Sciacca
Oil on canvas 50x70
Title: "Magico incontro"
Signed: front and back
In the center of the scene we find two classical masks placed on what seems to be a dark gray support plane:
On the left dominates the mask with the long hooked beak, the one used by doctors to visit patients with the plague.
It is rendered with shades of gray and white that give it a nearly stone-like or bony texture.
On the right there is a shorter, square mask—the typical Venetian carnival mask that guaranteed anonymity.
Behind the masks emerges a branch of bright red coral.
Its organic, branching shape contrasts sharply with the rigid, lattice-like lines of the masks.
The painting plays a lot with chromatic and luminous contrasts.
The background is a warm, earthy brown that makes the cold white of the masks stand out.
There is a skillful use of chiaroscuro.
The work exudes a sense of mystery and silence.
It is a very evocative piece that invites the observer to reflect on what lies behind the surface.
It will be shipped with professional packaging and traceable shipping.
