Description from the seller
Note:
The images shown with frames are mood images and are intended to illustrate how the work could hang in an interior.
In “Mainstage – Nobody Wants the Truth”, Bart Hamelink presents a confrontational image of the world we live in — a world in which roles are played, expectations are imposed, and the truth is often avoided.
On the left, we see a group of figures, surrounded by words such as “funny”, “happy”, “brave” and “nice”. They are labels, expectations imposed from the outside. As if people are continually pushed into a role: be nice, be strong, be easy.
On the right stands a single figure, on a kind of stage — the “mainstage.” Here the mood shifts. Words like “be easy”, “just smile” and especially “nobody wants the truth” make clear what is really at play: authenticity is uncomfortable, and is preferred to be avoided.
The work shows the tension between who we must be and who we really are. Between the collective and the individual. Between masks and truth.
The black-and-white base reinforces the rawness, while the yellow glow around the central figure gives the feeling of a spotlight — visible, yet not truly seen.
As is characteristic of Hamelink, the style is direct and seemingly simple, but the message is deep and universal. The work raises questions about identity, social pressure, and the price of honesty.
Note:
The images shown with frames are mood images and are intended to illustrate how the work could hang in an interior.
The artwork is delivered unframed and without a stretcher (rolled) for safe and affordable transport.
The work is carefully packaged and shipped and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity from the artist Bart Hamelink.
