Balenciaga, a 2026 Italian plastic artwork by Slasky, hand-signed, in edition 1/1, measuring 57 cm high by 29 cm wide by 0.1 cm deep, not framed, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
In this work the artist elevates the humblest, most ordinary object of Italian consumer culture — the white plastic bag from the supermarket Lidl — to a contemporary status symbol.
By ironicaly overlaying the word “BALENCIAGA” by hand onto the popular logo, the work both unmasks and celebrates the fluidity between high fashion and low cost, between the desire for luxury and everyday prosaic reality.
The bag, still creased from real use, is torn from its banal context and enclosed in an aseptic frame.
This forced musealization creates a powerful semantic short circuit: cheap plastic becomes a relic, mass-produced product becomes a unique item, the ironic gesture becomes social critique.
The work provocatively interrogates the current dynamics of luxury with sharp sarcasm: how much is a brand name worth today?
Is it enough to write “Balenciaga” on an object to turn it into a fetish?
Through this conceptual ready-made, the artist reflects on perceived value, on the cultural appropriation of luxury by the working classes, and on the spectacularization of daily life in the Instagram era and fast fashion.
Ironical, tragic and irresistibly Italian, it is a keen commentary on our time: an era in which even supermarket shopping can aspire to the eternity of art.
